What you'd pay elsewhere — and what you'd get.

An honest, no-marketing-fluff comparison of Absence Pro against the other boutique absence and leave tools an Australian SMB would realistically shortlist. Prices, features, and a section on when someone else is the better fit.

For a 100-person Australian team on annual billing, Absence Pro lands at roughly half the price of the next cheapest boutique tool and as much as 8.5× cheaper than the most expensive. The reason is structural — our Pro tier is a flat A$854/year for up to 100 employees, where everyone else charges per seat.

What's actually in the box

Price is one input. Here's how the feature scope lines up. We've tried to be fair — where a competitor has a real strength, we've called it out.

When someone else is the right call

We built Absence for a specific job. If your job sits outside that, here's where we'd genuinely send you instead.

You mostly need annual leave / PTO tracking

If your real problem is who's on holiday next month, not who keeps missing Mondays, look at Timetastic (calendar-first, simple) or Vacation Tracker (if you live in Slack). Absence handles unplanned absences first; broader leave tracking is on our roadmap.

Your team lives in Microsoft 365

Absentify is built inside Entra ID and surfaces absences in Outlook, Teams status, and SharePoint. If "everything has to be in Teams" is non-negotiable, they'll feel more native than we will today.

You're in the EU or UK and need GDPR data residency

Absence is built for Australian businesses and our data lives in Australia. If you're EU-based and need EU residency, absence.io (EU servers, GDPR-first) or Timetastic (UK-based) are better fits.

You need a full HRIS (onboarding, payroll, performance)

Absence is intentionally narrow. If you need recruiting, performance reviews, payroll, and document management in one place, look at an Australian HRIS like Employment Hero or ELMO. Expect to pay roughly 8–20× what you'd pay us.

You want a Slack-first experience right now

Vacation Tracker was designed for Slack-native workflows; Calamari's Slack bot is also strong. Our Slack integration is on the roadmap but isn't shipped yet — fair to flag.

How we calculated this

Transparency is the whole point of a benchmark page. Here's the workings.

Sample team size

100 employees — the top of our Pro tier, where the per-employee rate is most favourable, and a common shortlist-size SMB.

Billing frequency

Annual billing across all tools where available. The Absence Pro annual price is A$854/yr (saves 20% vs. monthly).

Currency conversions

AUD/USD ≈ 0.66, AUD/GBP ≈ 0.52, AUD/EUR ≈ 0.61 (May 2026 mid-market rates). FX shifts will move the comparison.

Tax treatment

Absence Pro is shown inc 10% GST (A$854). Competitor list prices are typically quoted ex-VAT/sales tax, which is how we've shown them. An Australian buyer's true comparison cost may differ by tax jurisdiction.

Plan tiers compared

We've used each competitor's entry tier and (where it exists) their advanced tier. We didn't compare against enterprise HRIS suites like BambooHR, Personio or Rippling — those aren't apples-to-apples with a boutique absence tool.

Feature ticks

A capability is marked "✓" only if it's documented on the vendor's public pricing or features page. "—" means we couldn't verify; happy to update with corrections.
